Guidance for transition to PGWP
A study permit is required for international students planning to study in Canada for programs lasting longer than six months. This permit allows you to study at Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) and is valid for the duration of your program, plus an additional 90 days to prepare for departure or apply for an extension.
Onshore Students (Already in Canada):If you’re already in Canada on a visitor visa or work permit, you can apply for a study permit from within the country. Once approved, it will be valid for your program's duration plus 90 days for transition or extension.
Offshore Students (Outside Canada):For students applying from outside Canada, you’ll need an acceptance letter from a DLI before applying for a study permit through your local Canadian visa office. The permit is valid for the length of your program, plus 90 days.
